Dr.-Ing. Matthias Jacob became managing director of Implenia Hochbau GmbH on January1, 2018.   He earned his degree and doctorate at the Dortmund Technical University, and has been active in the construction industry since 1987. He has held various management roles, including CEO of Bilfinger Hochbau GmbH from 2007 through 2010, and technical managing director of Wolff & Müller Holding GmbH & Co KG from 2011 through 2017.

Dr. Jacob is particularly committed to building quality in planning, implementation, and operation, and to interdisciplinary exchange to ensure quality optimization in projects. He has been intensively involved with the sustainability aspects of real estate since 2005. He is a proponent of step-by-step process optimization for increasing effectiveness in the construction industry (lean management) and the further development of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the construction added-value chain.

In addition to his membership on the advisory board of the REM and CPM Master’s degree course and a teaching position at the University of Wuppertal, Dr. Jacob gives specialist presentations at various German universities and congresses. He is deputy chairman of the board of the German Society for Concrete and Construction Technology and has also been elected as deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Planen Bauen 4.0, the mission of which is to be the central discussion partner in the field of research, rulemaking, and market implementation of BIM.

The BIM method is still used in the internal process optimization in many companies. A further requirement is to make the method understandable for the customer or user and to ensure that he or she benefits from the information gained. This presentation deals with applications that bring benefits to customers for their further use.
